Heron Island Residents Association (HIRA) Membership

HIRA is here to represent the residents on the island on important matters, such as their rights, maintenance and improvement of the Island's amenities and environment. It also aims to represent residents with the local authorities, builders, management company and other freeholders.

The residents association is more that this though, it is a heartbeat of the community and a place to share tips, information and simply being good neighbours. It is what makes Heron Island so unique.  If you live on Heron Island, you can become a member.

Membership entitles you to attend and raise issues, concerns and comments at the associations' Annual General Meeting (a great place to meet your neighbours) as well as any emergency meetings of the association. Members also get access to the restricted areas of the website (including AGM and Committee minutes) and to discuss issues directly with members of the committee to raise on your behalf with the managers and agents of the Island.

HIRA makes decisions and recommendations concerning a number of key matters including suppliers of Gardening, Maintenance Services (maintenance of shared amenities and interfacing with the management company on matters such as external redecorating) and Jetty and Dredging requirements. Being a fully paid up Member, as set out above, means that you have the opportunity to make your point about these and other matters.

There are two types of membership which give additional benefits on top of those above:

Owner Members

Membership of the Neighbourhood Watch group

The right to elect HIRA Committee Officers

The right to attend and be heard at HIRA Committee Meetings

Membership admittance (usually reduced) for you and a guest at our social functions.

The right to participate in any schemes introduced by HIRA (ie Redecoration Opt-Out).

Tenant Members

Membership of the Neighbourhood Watch group

Tenant Membership admittance (usually reduced) for you and a guest at HIRA social functions

Membership Fees

In order to be a fully paid up Member you must pay the Membership Fee which is set at the AGM in May. Fees become due from 1 June. It is helpful if you pay your fee at the AGM. There is no reduction for payments received (usually by new residents) after the due date.

For the period June to May of the following year the fees are:

Owner Membership £10

Tenant Membership £5

You can apply by completing the membership form and emailing it to membership@heronisland.org.uk.
